Groww - Designing for fintech

user research

fintech

internship experience

During my internship at Groww, I engaged in two significant projects in addition to conducting a user journey mapping exercise for the app's initial user experience. I collaborated with the accounting team to create a comprehensive Accounting Control Tower tool entirely from scratch. I also partnered with the investment team to enhance the app by introducing a new "alerts" feature. For this I conducted phone call interviews, performed competitive analysis, and conducted both quantitative and qualitative research to inform our design decisions.

Designing an effective alerts feature for investment to empower users with timely updates, ensuring they stay informed and make financial decisions seamlessly.

📠 Projects worked on:

  1. The accounting team needed a new Accounting Control Tower to keep logs of different kinds of accounts.

  2. Alert feature addition: I conducted comprehensive research for the stock alert feature but was unable to complete the implementation phase. My work was accepted up to the research stage.

  3. Conducted phone call interviews to learn about user behaviour and their understanding of the dashboard.

  4. As a new user of Groww app, I journey mapped my experience of the starting from the onboarding to investing in a stock and Mutual Fund.

🔬 Accounting Control Tower

After undergoing nearly five iterative phases, commencing with initial wireframes provided by the Product Manager, we arrived at the final designs. The primary focus was on crafting various tables, some featuring input fields.

One of the example is given below

Competitive analysis

I conducted a comparative analysis of existing alert features across various investment apps and platforms. This research enabled me to grasp their workflow and functionality. Additionally, I observed the utilization of mathematical operators in some systems for setting up alerts.

Paytm Money

  • Showed a range of prices of where the price is now and where we marked the alert.

  • The variables used to mark alerts here is the price and rate percentage. Also visually shows the direction of the percentage moving.

Zerodha

  • Complete customization of alerts - Name, Property, stock, equation, Price value, and compared to last price

  • Subtle and clear create alert option, Just above the price charts.

  • Equations: Greater than or equal to, less than equal to, others

(Only price equations)

  • What Price? Last traded price, open price, close price etc - basically at what position the price is.

Trendlyne

  • Given +/- Percentages - no options for the user to set something up on their own

  • SMA Crossover - periodic moves and crossovers - again no option for the users to set something up on their own.

  • Volume: Weekly and monthly volume given with given options.

  • Research Report: Based on what the app suggests and any sudden/new changes if happened on the stock

  • Scope to add other alerts and backend alerts setting option given.

Robinhood

  • Watchlist wise addition of alerts.

  • All the stocks under one watchlist will get assigned that particular alert.

  • Types of alerts, based on time, price, window etc.

  • More details on the types of alerts not only based on rates and prices - also with respect to time, expirations, news, updates

For a more in-depth discussion of the research conducted, please feel free to reach out to me. I'd be happy to provide further details and insights.
